MAY 2011 This is the 6th in a series of reports by the webmaster on the new community building proposed by the Parish Council. You can dip into any of them, but to get a clearer understanding the reports are best read in date order as shown at bottom right of this page. |
Success at last!
Planning permission for Welney's new Community Hall/Pavilion was finally granted on 19th May 2011, fifteen months after the application was first lodged, and almost 5 years since the Parish Council announced their plans back in June 2006.Permission is subject to the following conditions:
- building work to be started within 3 years of date permission granted
- sewerage & drainage plans to be submitted and approved
- Hurn Drove to be widened/resurfaced for 10m from March Rd & slope reduced
- noise reduction scheme to protect local residents to be submitted and approved
- car park to be surfaced and drained.
The application did not include plans for a childrens play area. Permission for that will need to be applied for later and an additional fee payable.

The next stages - drawing up building plans, tendering for prices, raising the necessary funds estimated by some to be in excess of £250,000 - and beginning the works, will all need to be dealt with more urgency than the planning process because of the conditions stipulated.
