In 1990, after nine years without a cricket club in Welney, the Club re-formed under Bob Frusher's guidance and a new all-weather pitch was laid at the Playing Field. The following article written by Bob appeared in the very first (pilot) issue of "Welney News" in September 1997: "Welney Cricket Club was re-formed by Ray Kent and me [Bob Frusher] and is now in its seventh season. Both Ray and I put up the finance for an artificial wicket to be installed, and the Club's income each year is dependant on subscriptions by players, sponsorship Elgoods, The Three Tuns and Howard Kent and fund raising at games and through the popular winter quiz at The [Three]Tuns. |

However, in 1998 the Club was again disbanded, apparently rather abruptly, and the all-weather pitch was removed
from the cricket 'square' at Welney Playing Field. Records and achievements during the period under Bob can be seen via the links on the right. Fortunately it wasn't too long before Welney had another cricket club, and you can follow their fortunes from their home page. |
