After two cancellations a welcome home fixture with the visit of Spalding 's Social XI. Croft won the toss and invited Spalding to bat first. Jon Dale soon dismissed opener Ben Westlake - bowled third ball. Gilbert (13) and Altaf (16) batted with caution to take the score to 30 before Altar was also bowled by Dale. Steve Saberton and Dale both had 5 over opening spells conceding only 9 and 16 runs respectively. First change John Rowland opened his season with yet another fine display finishing with the remarkable figures of 1 for 9 in 8 overs with 4 maidens. His bowling partner Sean Goodger claimed most dismissals with a 4 wicket haul from his 8 overs and John Loveday bowled Sharpe for the final wicket leaving the visitors on 111 all out.

Shortly after the 50 partnership, Birch was trapped LBW by Bright in the 14th over with the total at 53. Stephen Kent (8) and Neil Parkinson (11} also fell victims to the LBW with Paul Brown (2) and Sean Goodger being caught to Bright and Gilbert respectively. A Spalding batsman

Dennis Birch begins a jig to celebrate the impending wicket.

Welney's captain, John Loveday, fires down a slow left-armer.

The scorer could do that once. The webmaster still can - but only just.

How did that happen?

Welney has a new smart scoreboard
but same old Smart scorer.

Welney's openers belted the ball all over the field watched by Impassive Fielder

again .........

and again .....

and again .....

and again .....

and again .....

where's that gone?
and where's Impassive Fielder?

Dennis just avoids being run-out.
But not by Impassive Fielder.

One Spalding fielder runs in, another tumbles. Impassive Fielder moves arm.
