ANOTHER BATTING FLOP
Report by Tony Smart
Played at Leverington mostly in overcast conditions and for a while in fine drizzle
of rain.
Welney won the toss and invited Leverington to bat first.
Opening bowlers Dale & Saberton bowled well and caused early problems taking
2 wickets for 23 in the first 10 overs.
After this Gill (49) and Embleton (71*) laid the foundations for a match winning score
adding 88 for the third wicket,
Gill finished 1 run short of his half century, caught behind by Parkinson off Gareth
Kent in the 31st over. Embleton remained not out punishing any loose balls.
Welney bowlers – Jon Dale (1 for 28), Steve Saberton (1 for 19) Gareth Kent (2 for 22)
Percy Bulsara (1 for 14), John Loveday (0 for 32) John Rowland (0 for 36)
After the interval Croft's innings started badly and never really recovered. Two wickets
fell in the second over, Stephen Revett bowled and Ashley Inwood caught behind.
Duncan Hobbs (11) hung around for a while as did Neil Parkinson without really being
able to punish the home sides change bowlers.
Jon Dale spread the the fielders with some hard hitting and top scored again with 22.
Stephen Kent (5), John Rowland (6) and John Loveday (9) all hit boundaries as the
wickets tumbled to 92 all out.
Another disappointing result with scoring runs a big problem.
Neil Parkinson (15) - two x 4's
Jon Dale (22) - three x 4's
Duncan Hobbs ( 11 ) - one x 4.
Team - John Loveday (captain), Neil Parkinson, Stephen Kent, Gareth Kent, Duncan Hobbs, Percy Bulsara, Ashley Inwood, Jon Dale,
Steve Saberton, John Rowland & Stephen Revett.
