CAMRA Peterborough take 'Pop' Bedford Cup

After a lapse of 2 seasons CAMRA Peterborough were Crofts new opponents. On a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon CAMRA batted first and Croft had a good start with early optimism, taking 3 wickets for only 21 runs in the first 8 overs. Steve Saberton claimed 2 victims and new opening partner David Goodwin bowling opener McLean. However captain Nick Bradbury (109*) and No.5 bat N.Wright (42) soon put the visitors in the driving seat, the fourth wicket falling 171 runs later with the score at 192 - Bradbury retiring not out after his century (including 4 x 6's & 11 x 4's) displayng some of the hardest hitting for several seasons. Croft used 8 bowlers with the best performance coming from Steve Saberton (2 for 27 in his 8 overs). CAMRA's innings closed at 216 for 4 wkts.

 Bowling – John Loveday ( 0 for 37) Wayne Kersher (0 for 35) Steve Saberton ( 2 for 27) Jon Dale (0 for 38) David Goodwin ( 1 for 11) John Gill (0 for 21) Matt Footman (1 for 23) Percy Bulsara (0 for 12)

In reply after the tea interval Croft struggled against the bowling of Jex and Fare - Jex conceding only 4 runs in 6 overs. Only opener John Gill and Matt Footman batted with confidence, John carrying his bat throughout all 40 overs and Matt, the only other bat to reach double figures. Unfortunately Croft were never in a position to mount a challenge, at the half way stage, after 20 overs, the score was 44 for 3 wkts - then needing a mammoth 172 at a run rate of 8.6 for the remaining overs. Like their batting, the visitors bowling was just too good for Croft. CAMRA won easily by 123 runs and worthy cup winners.
