WICKEN - BLOWS CUP WINNERS
Wicken won the toss and elected to bat first.
The visitors soon made the most of any loose bowling - openers Digman (16) and Bircham (22) finding the boundary with ease.
With the normal opening bowlers unavailable, stand in Paul Kaminiski did well returning favourable bowling figures of 2 for 21 from his allotted 8 overs.
Generally the home bowling was very poor, but a special mention of Wayne Kerscher, who made his debut for the club and claimed 5 wickets for 35 runs in his spell later in the innings, (four being clean bowled).
R. French (29) and M. St. John (67) added 71 for the fourth wicket and with R. St. John (31 n.o) ensured the visitors had a possible match winning score of 195 for 8 wkts after 40 overs.
Bowling -
John Loveday (1 for 19) David Goodwin (1 for 40)
Paul Kaminiski (2 for 21) John Gill (0 for 35)
Percy Bulsara (0 for 27) Wayne Kerscher (5 for 35)
After the tea interval Croft set about the task of over hauling Wicken’s team total with a run rate of nearly 5 runs per over required.
Paul Kaminski (13) and John Norman (45) were both unlucky – Paul out to a brilliant catch and John run out.
Stephen Kent (11), John Gill (27 n.o) and Neil Parkinson (37 – retired hurt) all battled in vain to get Croft in a winning position.
John Gill and John Loveday were at the crease for the final 2 overs and with 17 runs needed to win, failed by just 8 runs.
A disappointing end especially with 6 wickets in hand and batsmen waiting in the pavilion?
However, Wicken were worthy first time Blows Cup winners - having been Croft’s opponents for the past 3 seasons.
John Norman 45 (3 x 4’s)
Neil Parkinson 37 (2 x 4’s)
John Gill 27* (3 x 4’s)
Paul Kaminski 13 (1 x 4)
Stephen Kent 11 (1 x 4)
