CROFT IMPROVING This match was surprisingly completed - being played throughout in overcast, cold and wintery conditions. Denver won the toss and Croft was asked to bat first. Croft’s openers again started poorly scoring only 9 in 5 overs and losing 4 wickets? Gareth Kent hit a six before coming back to the pavilion with it being his only scoring stroke. The middle order then restored Croft’s fortunes – Jon Dale (30) & Jon Norman (45) added 69 for the fifth wicket bringing the total to 78. Steve Saberton weighed in with (27) batting at No.8 and with the tail all contributing to bring a final total of 135 for 9 wkts – an unimaginable score when 9 for 4 wkts? Jon Dale 30 (4 x 4’s) Jon Norman 45 (1 x 6, 4 x 4’s) Steve Saberton 27 (2 x 4’s) After the tea interval, Denver maintained a good run rate throughout their innings with opener D.Cornwell (42) and P.Morton (48 n.o) doing most of the damage and Vincent (19) also adding valuable runs. Briefly when the 5th wicket fell at 90, Croft appeared to be in with a chance but Morton steered Denver home with a 5 wicket victory.
