Don't judge a book by its cover!
After two years hard work by a small number of dedicated residents - a mixture of Parish Councillors and Parishioners - the 'Action Plan' was finally delivered to every household in the Parish in March 2008.
The cover photo - the disused water tower - seems a strange choice, whatever its artistic merit. Not just because the Parish Council had previously said they thought it was an eye-sore that ought to be demolished, but because it doesn't represent our Parish.
Welney is about the Ouse Washes, the swans, fishing in the Old Bedford and Delph Rivers, the history of life along the Bedford Bank, skating, William Marshall and his legacy (including the School, Church & Almshouses), the Lamb & Flag Inn, the Parish Hall, the Playing Field and Pavilion, flooding on the Wash Road, the clubs and social life, and its people. So why the water tower?
However, it's the content that really matters - what Parishioners want Welney to be, to
have. Let's hope the Parish Council make a better job of dealing with that than they did
in choosing the cover photo.
