RAIN – THE ONLY WINNER
Welney won the toss and invited Leverington to bat first.
After a slow start by the visitors openers, Bailey (20) and Embleton (20) quickly progressed to 53, after Milner’s dismissal, bowled by Steve Saberton with the score on 21.
Bailey was caught on the long off boundary by Percy Bulsara going for a six, and Embleton falling to a good catch by Saberton, both off Paul Kaminiski.
After their departure the home bowlers were very on top with Percy Bulsara mopping up the tail taking 4 wickets for only 9 runs.
Earlier Steve Saberton was very unlucky, continually beating the bat with little return and Paul Kaminiski marked his return with 3 wkts for 21.
Leverington’s innings closed on 95 in the 39th over.
Bowling - Steve Saberton 2 for 23, John Loveday 1 for 19, Paul Kaminiski 3 for 21, John Rowland 0 for 23, Percy Bulsara 4 for 9.
After the tea interval openers Neil Parkinson and Steve Saberton made a promising start scoring 15 from the first 3 overs, then a sudden cloud burst stopped play.
As conditions didn’t improve within 30 minutes, and prospects still looked gloomy the match was abandoned as a draw.
Team - John Loveday (captain), Neil Parkinson, Steve Saberton, Percy Bulsara, Paul Kaminiski, John Rowland, Colin Taylor, Oliver Revett, Peter Scott, Nico Scott, Keir Scott, (12th man David Goodwin) .
