OPENING MATCH DEFEAT
Played at Port Lane, Castor on a hot Sunday afternoon.
Report by Tony Smart
The hosts won the toss and invited Croft to bat first in this 45 over match. The new season was only into the second over before Stephen
Revett was walking back to the pavilion, having been caught in the slips off Porter's bowling. A bad start for Croft, it was then left to the
ever reliable Hobbs (32) to be the mainstay of the innings, batting for 2 hours 5 mins, eventually being trapped LBW by Gray for
the seventh wicket. Only other noteable innings was from last season's batsman of the year Jon Dale, who started the new season in good
form scoring an unbeaten 36 with 5 boundaries. Croft eventually struggled to only 116 with 4 ducks being recorded, before the innings
closed in the 43rd over.
Jon Dale 36* (5 x 4's), Duncan Hobbs 32 (3 x 4's).
After the interval Castor were always in control, Sean Goodger (2 for 27) and Jon Dale (1 for 22) both bowled well with little success and Steve
Saberton was unlucky not to take a wicket. However Croft's total was not enough to test Castor, the home side coasted home by 7 wickets
with 14 overs to spare.
Steve Saberton (0 for 24), Sean Goodger (2 for 27), John Loveday (0 for 13), Jon Dale (1 for 21), Gareth Kent (0 for 12), Oliver Revett (0 for 15).
Team - John Loveday (captain), Neil Parkinson, Stephen Kent, Duncan Hobbs, Sean Goodger, Gareth Kent, Steve Saberton, Duncan Hobbs, Jon Dale,
Ashley Inwood, Oliver Revett.
